Entrance to the Whitehouse Nature Center.

The Nature Center’s interpretive buildingis equipped with a classroom, wildlife observation room, outdoor porch overlooking the Kalamazoo River and restrooms. Live exhibits ofreptiles and amphibians are displayed. Trail maps, brochures and other exhibits can be found in the building.

Location

Our visitor’s center and trails start at the end of Farley Drive, just past the Albion College athletic fields and the Dowcomplex. Our coordinates are 42.24244 N, 84.73520W.

From I-94, use Albion exits 121 or 124. The Nature Center is one-quarter mile southeast of the Albion College campus, on FarleyDrive. The visitor’s center islocated alongthe North Branch of the Kalamazoo River.

From the intersection of Hannah Street,turn east on Farley Drive (runs parallel to the railroadtracks); follow thesmall, white signs about half a mile to the Nature Center.

Outdoor Ethics

Although the Whitehouse Nature Center encourages all to participate in its educational and passive recreational offerings, certain activities detract from its intended purpose and mission.

The following activities are not permitted at the nature center:

  • Hunting
  • Fire-building
  • Camping
  • Horseback riding
  • Bicycling
  • Unleashed dogs
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Radios
  • Picking of plants
  • Removal of any natural objects (living or not)
  • Motorized vehicles of any type
  • Team running is discouraged due to the disruption to the wildlife and quiet setting.

Remember, the Nature Center is your place to enjoy, not destroy; to linger, not litter. Thank you!

Visitor Center Hours

The Visitor’s Center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Visitors’ Center is closed on all major and campusholidays.

There is no admission fee to visit.

Trail Hours

Trails are open 365 days a year, dawn to dusk.
