Albion and Its Community

Albion College and the city of Albion are deeply connected. Our students, faculty, and staff work alongside local leaders, schools, and organizations to strengthen neighborhoods, expand opportunities, and support the city’s growth.

OurAmeriCorps programplaces students in service roles across the city, from mentoring youth to running initiatives likeTech Savvy Seniors, featured inAARP Magazinefor helping older residents build digital skills. TheGerald R. Ford Institute partners with City Hall on civic projects, while AC3 student consulting teams assist local nonprofits and businesses in Albion and beyond.

TheCenter for Sustainability and the Environmentteaches sustainable agriculture through the student farm, with harvests donated to community gardens across Albion. TheWhitehouse Nature Centerprovides trails, wildlife habitats, and environmental education that serve both campus and the public.

Albion students also contribute directly to local education. The Education Department has deep ties with Marshall Public Schools, where students gain regular classroom experience through fieldwork and our one-of-a-kind Maemester program. The Build Albion Fellows program goes further by providing tuition, room, and board to local students, underscoring the College’s commitment to ensuring young people from the community have access to a college education.

Our connection is also celebrated through programs and events that welcome the public into our shared spaces—from the annualMLK Convocationand theBig Readto festivals, performances, and service projects that bring together campus and community.
