Renée Kreger, staff associate director for Albion’s Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program, has received the 2024 Award for Administrative Excellence from the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC).

With a membership of nearly 900 colleges and universities, the NCHC is the country’s foremost professional organization dedicated to undergraduate honors programs.

“A national award is a wonderful reflection of our Brown Honors Program and its mission, as well as a reflection of Renée’s work ethic, character, and commitment to this College,” said Honors Program director Lia Jensen-Abbott. “Renée is a passionate student advocate and works above and beyond to provide an inclusive, safe, and community-based atmosphere for our students every single day. Her impact on the Honors Program students is simply stellar and we are so proud and happy for her that she is receiving this award.”

Kreger joined the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program in 2002 and since 2016, has also served as staff associate director for the Foundation for Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity. Her association with Albion College began in 1990, and she has worked with both Dining Services and the Art and Art History Department.

In addition to serving as program administrator, Kreger happily takes on tasks that include giving rides to the airport and grocery store, picking up and delivering prescriptions to sick students, and organizing and attending the numerous social events that build the Honors Program’s sense of support.

“People think it’s funny that I refer to my Honors Program students as ‘my kids’ and they joke that I have 200 kids on campus,” Kreger reflected. “I work hard to make sure that my students feel like they belong here, feel like it’s their home away from home, and to give them a sense of community. It’s not always easy, but I love being around my kids.”
